John Joseph Hughes is an Australian businessman best known for his eponymous car dealership.

Biography

Early life

Hughes was born in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1935 and attended Christian Brothers College, Fremantle. As a teenager he began working at a car dealership while studying accounting by correspondence. By his late 20s he owned his own car dealership.[1]

His dealership was the world's highest selling Hyundai dealer for eight years running between 1997-2003. He played an integral part in establishing the brand Hyundai in Australia. Hughes, along with Alan Bond, through Bond Motor Corp. are responsible for bringing the Korean car manufacturer to Australia. Hughes held a position on the board of the Nine Network, and was a founding member on the board of the Fremantle Football Club.

Hughes recently received an acknowledgment by being honoured as an ambassador of Perth, Western Australia. He is famous for car promos live to air.

His automotive group also markets other major motoring brands from Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Ford, Kia and now Geely.[2]
